Find Balance to be Successful
We all know how important “balance” is in our personal lives. But did you also know that small business owners, and even larger, publically held companies, must also find “balance” to be successful? On the personal front, we all must balance many competing demands on a daily basis. These might include a busy work schedule, making time to spend with family, practicing a hobby, getting physically fit, meeting with friends, or just relaxing. But, making time to fit all the things we need and want to do in one day is difficult. Well, in my experience, it’s usually the individual that is organized and focused that is successful at managing competing demands.
In business, companies must also manage competing demands to stay competitive, grow, and be successful. One can easily understand that companies that have a well defined business plan, know their industry, and execute their business strategy well, will be rewarded. On the other end of the spectrum, those companies that are not focused and run their business haphazardly, typically do not compete well and ultimately fail. But, managing competing demands in business every day doesn’t automatically lead to success. The key is to “balance” internal and external factors affecting the business with strong management, effective operation, and commitment to succeed. I believe that even during these difficult economic times there are opportunities to succeed. Those that accept the challenge to be successful will clearly need to “balance” life in business and at home.
