VHB Sponsors Park View High School Financial Literacy Program

VHB is pleased to be a sponsor of EverFi for high school students at Park View High School in Loudoun County, providing students & teachers with access to "My Money, My Future" Financial Literacy Platform.

VHB has partnered with the Genworth Foundation to bring the interactive financial management program to these high school students at no cost to Park View High School. Established in 2005, the Genworth Foundation is the charitable giving arm of Genworth Financial, a foundation committed to helping build strong communities around the world.

EverFi is a web-based program that uses the latest in new media technologies such as video animation, 3-D gaming, avatars and social networking to bring financial concepts to life for today's digital generation. Through the "My Money, My Future" platform, students will become certified in over 600 topics in financial education, allowing them to become more informed, responsible citizens.

The 10-unit course offers 6 hours of programming aimed at teaching, assessing and certifying students in a variety of financial topics including credit scores, insurance, credit cards, student loans, mortgage, taxes, stocks, savings, 401k's and other critical concepts that map to national financial literacy standards. The platform uniquely tracks the progress and score of every student and provides students who successfully complete the course with Certification in Financial Literacy, a valuable mark of distinction on college applications and resumes.

"We are very excited that Virginia Heritage Bank and the Genworth Foundation have given Park View this great opportunity," said Donna Hashagen, teacher at Park View High School. "My Money, My Future is an innovative and interesting way to teach our students the skills they need to become financially responsible citizens. This year we are piloting the program in all CTE classes, our ELL study halls and in selected resource classes. Over twenty teachers will be involved in certifying our students. Our goal is to have four hundred students certified in the program by spring."

Breast Cancer Awareness Message From our Chantilly Branch...

"I am walking in honor of women everywhere."  This is just one of the many emotional statements that we saw when we arrived at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk for the American Cancer Society. Several VHB employees and family members walked to help support the cure for Breast Cancer Research. Like ours and many other families, we have been directly affected by Breast Cancer for the second time this year. One woman every three minutes is diagnosed with Breast Cancer. The Chantilly Branch of Virginia Heritage Bank prides itself in the several events we have been involved with this year along with our customers in the community.
